We finally finished our menu of Fancycakes after so many brainstorms, notes on post-its, lists on the back of junk mail and way too many thoughts in our heads. All of the ideas are inspired by, well, things that inspire us about food. You can imagine how many ideas there actually were compared to what it all came down to. So, without further adieu, I present, THE MENU! Applause!!!

We hope you like the menu! Specials will be frequent. Available for the a variety of holidays and other occasions.

Keep in mind that we are not only a cupcakery but also a dessertbar. We don't have the bar part of dessertbar yet but we are dreaming big! Our off-premise catering dessert menu should be ready soon. Half of us is off to Baja for the week. Luckyduck!

Happy Birthday Julie!

So, yes, we are finally a business. An almost actual business. We do not have a "building" unless you count the offer of Scooter's catering kitchen and of course my own kitchen - which is honestly bigger than some restaurant kitchens! 4 burners a griddle and a double oven. Not too shabby. Anyhow, I digress...back to the fact that we are an ACTUAL business!!! Today was a productive business day. Working with wonderful Seana at Ace-Ana Promotions to do some marketing and a little partnering with the ever amazing Wine Rack in Downtown Ventura and then there's the part about completing our first order.

The part that I love the most - besides that Julie is so wonderful for having hired us - is that she said that she loves chocolate but we could do anything we wanted. YAY! So we did just that.

The Peanut Butter Cup - Chocolate Cake with Peanut Butter Buttercream. But the wonderousness of this one is the little Reese's Peanut Buttercup baked inside. OOEY GOOEY GOODNESS!

The Lemon Meringue - Who doesn't love lemon meringue? Made from scratch lemon curd, made from scratch meringue and a great cake. Yellow cake this time but I think for the future we will make this one with a lemon cake. Meyer. Probably. And they were so freakin' cute!!!

The Strawberry Lavender - Inspiration. Ojai. Ventura. Where we live. Agriculture is a huge part of So Cal - especially in Ventura County. Oxnard is the strawberry capitol of the world!! Ojai is so famous for lavender!! This buttercream is made from unsalted butter and organic lavender sugar made in Ojai. It has the greatest flavor especially when gobbed on top of a cupcake made with fresh pureed local strawberries. This one may be seasonal - or we can use fresh frozen.

I hope the guests enjoy them as much as we imagine they will. They truly were delicious and so darn cute!

Can't wait to do it again...hint, hint.

Lessons Learned

Today was our very first "real job." Meaning someone actually hired us to to cupcakes for their event. And in doing so we learned a few things on the way...

1. Do not multitask

2. Make a list of what you need to bring with you so you don't leave anything important at home.
